On the day 6 of Event 26 at the World Series of Poker, the 1083 entry tournament demonstrated why they named it “a marathon”. True to its name, it transpired into an epic battle that concluded with Roman Koreven, a professional online poker player from Russia, winning his first gold bracelet from the WSOP as well as the amount of USD 477401.

Although Jared Koppel from Minnesota started the day with an overwhelming lead in chips, Koreven managed to defeat him in an epic heads-up struggle, which managed to excite many spectators. The lead position was exchanged a number of times between the two players with each one of them barely avoiding elimination.

Once the heads-up match started, there were twelve double-ups in total. The thirteenth all-inn proved decisive.  Although Kopper flopped top pair, Korenev showed a stronger pair at the time when all the chips got in the middle.

After the victory, Korenev was so overjoyed with himself that he told everybody “Dreams come true”.

Koppel also managed to collect quite a hefty price and left the event with USD 295008. He, however, will have to wait for another chance to win a bracelet.

The prize Korenev secured at the WSOP is his biggest career price so far. He is also known to have collected additional prizes in 8 different events in 2016 as well as a number of cashes in the years 2017 and 2018. This large cash of money is the second one for him this summer – one that he will surely never forget.

When asked what his future plans are for his poker career, Korenev didn’t hesitate to reply with “My next bracelet!”.

Many people believed that this will be a quick final table but as it turned out, they were wrong.
